Short Bowel Syndrome

Abstract
A great extent of intestinal resection may cause insufficient intestinal absorption capacity, which results in diarrhea, dehydration and malnutrition. This "short bowel syndrome" can be cured by medical therapy in many cases, but even intestinal transplantation may be needed. (J Surg Crit Care 2012;2:5-7)
